CZirkidz - a school that turns dreams into reality (and a somersault into a double backflip)

CZirkidz is a school of contemporary circus that arose from a clear vision and a great dream: to give children, not only from Trutnov, the opportunity to learn from the best in the world. Australian acrobats teach here, and their approach to education is exceptional. Their school is among the absolute world elite because it perfectly connects the body with the mind – performance with awareness, physical effort with the joy of movement.

When this idea came to Libor Kasík, he approached Joshua Hoare, the artistic director of the renowned Australian school Cirkidz in Adelaide, and the South Australian Circus Centre, with which Cirk-UFF has been collaborating for a long time. Together, they began working on the possible realization of the project. After successfully securing support from the National Recovery Plan grant, the CZirkidz school could actually be opened – realized by Uff in cooperation with SACC.

CZirkidz is unique not only in the Czech Republic but also throughout Europe. It is open to all children regardless of where they come from, and it knows ways to enable their participation even from a distance. Its goal is not 'just' to develop movement and creativity, but to train top acrobats who may one day become part of the best Czech and international troupes.

The idea was born in 2019 during workshops at the Cirk-UFF festival, where Australian instructors were able to unlock the untapped potential in children within a few hours. The children themselves said they accomplished things they had never been able to do before. And thus, a plan was born – to give them the opportunity to grow, train, and one day (today at Cirk-UFF) stand on the same stage as the stars they admire.

The CZirkidz school opened its doors in 2024 and has since become a part of the annual Cirk-UFF program. Every year, its students perform here - and it is more than just a performance. It is proof that a dream can start in a small town and successfully aim high. Perhaps all the way to the top of the circus world.

Spring semester CZirkidz 2026 starts on Tuesday, January 13, and will run until mid-May 2026 (a total of 13 lessons).

The very youngest, as well as teenagers and adults, will find something for themselves, with several classes open for them. We currently have a few spots available:

Parents and young children

This class is designed for children from the age of 3, who attend the lesson together with their parents. The class has become very popular among younger children, who can enjoy not only shared fun with their parents, but also learn the basics of acrobatics and working with equipment. A pleasant bonus is that the lessons are taught in English!
The lesson takes place regularly at Wednesday from 4:15 PM to 5:15 PM .

Lesson duration 60 minutes, tuition 3,500 CZK (parent and child)/13 lessons (semester)

Circus training program

Children aged 4 to 6 will try out skills such as juggling, basic gymnastics elements, partner and aerial acrobatics, and much more during regular lessons. This class is intended for children who are at least partially independent and used to cooperating in a group..

You can choose from two options, namely in Wednesday 3:15 PM – 4:00 PM or in Thursday 4:00 PM – 4:45 PM.

Lesson length 45 minutes, tuition 2,500 CZK/13 lessons (semester)

Specialization PARKOUR

We invite anyone from the age of 10 (boys and girls) who want to practice this discipline under the guidance of a professional instructor.

The lesson includes jumping on and over objects, proper use of body movement, awareness of where you are in the air to ensure the tricks performed are safe and effective. This lesson will build on students' basic acrobatic jumps and teach them sequencing, balance, and coordination in the air..

The lessons take place regularly Tuesday from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM.

Lesson duration 60 minutes. Tuition 3,000 CZK / 13 lessons (semester)

The lessons are conducted in English by professional acrobats from Australia in the National House building – Národní 199, 541 01 Trutnov.

LECTURERS

Tomas Correia

His first experiences with new circus were in "flying zucchini", he spent more than 10 years training in Spaghetti Circus, Circa Zoo and NICA. He strives to be multidisciplinary and is particularly fascinated by pushing the creative and crazy boundaries of circus and how it can be combined with other art forms such as dance, music, and other visual arts. Tomáš co-founded Circus Statera in 2019, 13 EGGS in 2022, and since then has added graphic design and marketing to his repertoire. He currently lives in the Czech Republic, where he teaches and performs at the circus school CZirkidz.

Aleshanee Kelso

She started in the Spaghetti Circus and in 2019 graduated from the National Institute of Circus Arts, where she gained ten years of circus experience. Aleshanee specializes in partner acrobatics and tippy-ring. She loves experimenting and pushing boundaries. In 2020, Aleshanee was involved in the creation of Statera Circus and their SYAI program, which allows emerging artists to create new works and engage meaningfully with young people. This program helped her co-create the performance 13 EGGS in 2022. The first performance of 13 EGGS titled Space Between appeared on both national and international stages. Other significant collaborations include working with Circus OZ, A Good Catch Circus in their award-winning show "Casting Off" and in their new shows "Airborne" and "Signal" by Signal Circus. She currently lives in the Czech Republic, where she teaches and performs with the circus school CZirkidz.

AUTUMN SEMESTER 2025

We look forward to new and existing participants in the new circus. The autumn semester will start in the week of September 8th and will run until December 2025 with instructors Aleshanee Kelso and Tomas Correia.

You can choose from a wide portfolio according to the age of the interested party or specialization:

CIRCUS PREPARATORY CLASS

Children aged 4 to 6 will have the opportunity to try skills such as juggling, basic gymnastics elements, partner and aerial acrobatics, and much more during regular lessons. This class is intended for children who are at least partially independent and used to collaborating in a group.

You can choose between two options, either Wednesday from 3:15 PM to 4:00 PM or Thursday from 4:00 PM to 4:45 PM.

Duration of the lesson is 45 minutes, tuition is 2,500 CZK per semester.

PARENTS AND CHILDREN

This lesson is intended for children aged 3 and up, who attend the lesson together with their parents. Last semester, this lesson became very popular among younger children, who could enjoy not only shared fun with their parents but also learn the basics of acrobatics and working with equipment. A nice bonus is the teaching in English! The lesson takes place regularly on Wednesdays from 4:15 PM to 5:15 PM.

Lesson duration 60 minutes, tuition 3,500 CZK/semester (for both parent and child)

YOUTH / TEENAGE

Teenagers are welcome and can choose from a wide range of options and possibly specialize in their preferred discipline.

The lesson on Tuesday from 14:00 to 15:00 is intended for interested participants aged 7 to 10 who are just starting with new circus skills and want to learn basic skills in pair and aerial acrobatics, with equipment (juggling, flower sticks, diablo, etc.), and gymnastic elements on an air mat and mini trampoline.

For moderately advanced participants , we offer lessons o n Tuesdays from 3:15 PM to 4:15 PM or on Wednesdays from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The lessons are intended for individuals aged 10 and older who are continuing from the previous semester or have experience in gymnastics, dance, or another sport and wish to expand their skills.

PARKOUR SPECIALIZATION

The new class in the autumn semester is a parkour course. The lessons will include jumping on and over objects, as well as the proper use of body movement, and orientation in the air to ensure that the executed tricks are safe and effective. This class will build on the fundamentals of acrobatic jumps for students and will teach them sequencing, balance, and coordination in the air. The class will also include hanging acrobatics. For ages 10 and up.

TThis lesson will take place every Tuesday from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM , and we recommend it as a second lesson in addition to one of the basic lessons for teenagers or for talented individuals who already have at least basic movement skills in sports, dance, or gymnastics.

OLDER TEENAGERS AND ADULTS

SPECIALIZATION IN SUSPENDED ACROBATICS

The next specialized class of the autumn semester will include working on aerial acrobatics, specifically on the lyra (hanging circle), trapeze (horizontal bar), straps, and rope or scarf, as well as body coordination, strengthening, and stretching. Another aspect of the class will be handstands, manipulation specialties like hoops, juggling, and flower sticks, gymnastic elements on an air mat, group pyramids, and of course, acrobatic jumps!

The lesson takes place on Thursday from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

SPECIALIZATION IN PAIR ACROBATICS

This lesson is one of the very popular ones not only among teenagers but also among adults! It is a time spent together with your partner at a beginner to intermediate skill level in pairs or groups. It is not necessary to come as a couple to the lesson; it is also intended for individuals who are interested in this discipline.

Lessons will take place every Thursday from 18:15 to 19:15.

Tuition 5,500 CZK per couple, 3,000 CZK for an individual/autumn semester

Spring Semester CZirkidz 2025

From March 2025, the spring semester of the Australian-Czech school continues with its regular classes. For new interested parties we are opening another group Circus Preparations , which is of great interest to the public. We can also offer a few vacancies for teenagers and adults.

CZirkidz continues in autumn

The first semester of our circus school is successfully behind us, but as you know, CZirkidz is a continuous project. That is why we are already preparing the next (k)years. The second semester will start in the week of October 14, 2024 and will last until the end of February 2025. In March 2025, the third semester will begin.
The lecturers of the next two cycles will be Australian acrobats Aleshanee Kelso and Tomas Correia, who are focused on ground and air aerobatics and a number of other specifications. For the development of young acrobats, it is important that they can try all acrobatic disciplines, on the basis of which they will find out for themselves which specification suits them best. CZirkidz is intended for children and youth from 4 to 19 years of age, we are also newly opening a group for adults interested in new circus art and a lesson for small children and parents.

Semester price October 2024 – February 2025
Visit 1x per week – 3.500 CZK/semester
2x per week – 6.000 CZK/semester
3x a week – 8.500 CZK/semester

Special offer for Wednesday group Small children and parents:

Teaching will take place continuously in blocks of four to five months. The first block will start in January 2024.

However, it will be possible to visit the school practically every day. Above all, we plan for cross-country interested parties one-off weekend workshops that can be attended according to the time available for each of you. In the application form, please indicate the specific days and times in which you can attend the course. When fulfilling of individual courses, we will try to accommodate all participants as much as possible, if possible. Participants will be sorted into courses according to age and previous experience. If you decide to attend the course more than once a week, please write it down in the application form.

The capacity of 1 course is 10-15 children.

If you're still not sure if this will be right for your baby, the first week will definitely help informative. The first week will be devoted to sample lessons. You, as legal representatives, will also be invited to the lesson they knew what to expect for you and your baby. This week there will be space for your possible questions, getting to know organizers and lecturers.

You can therefore pay the course fee only after the first lesson.

You also don't have to worry about the language barrier, in this case a person will be present at the courses who will help the children will facilitate communication.

School is starting, get in!

The opening of the unique Australian-Czech circus school CZirkidz in Trutnov is fast approaching. To learn will start in January, you can apply for it from September.

1. Who can apply to the school? It is primarily intended for children and youth between the ages of 4 and 19. Older applicants will not be rejected either. It is open beginners, amateurs and professionals.

2. How will the teaching take place? From Tuesday to Saturday, always from 14:00 to 20:00. The lesson will last 1 to 2 hours depending on the age. Beginnings set in such a way that they suit all pupils.

3. How many lessons do I have? The minimum is 20 lessons in a four- to five-month block (semester). But it depends on the student how many hours there will be manage. He can arrange more lessons.

4. Who teaches at school? Acrobats from Australia who are the world's best. The guarantor is Joshua Hoare, artistic director of the Cirkidz school from Adelaide, where they train the best circus performers. The second partner of the project is the UFFO from Trutnov.

5. In what language are the lessons conducted? There is no need to worry about the language barrier. A Czech teacher will be available for necessary situations and at the same time translator.

6. Where will he train? The courses will take place in the National House, in the Vesmír cinema and in Uff.

7. How much will I pay for tuition? The basic price is CZK 3,500 for 20 lessons once a week. Those who attend twice a week, i.e. will have 40 lessons, will pay CZK 6,000. Those who manage 3 lessons a week, i.e. 60 in total, will pay CZK 8,500. It is possible to purchase individually lessons, one for 400 CZK.
